If
senators, congressment and other federal officials...
...had to live on social security when they retired or
became disabled, wanna bet that the disability and retirement
benefits would actually cover living expenses and Medicare
would cover prescription drugs, hearing aids, eye glasses,
and other necessities that presently force the disabled
and seniors to live at or below the federally established
poverty level and receive inadequate (and often substandard)
medical and health care... ?
And
what about working women, who earn $0.72 for every $1
their male counterparts for doing the same job, and those
women who stayed home to raise their children, or worked
in such low paying, under-valued jobs such as day care
workers, or worked part-time jobs to be home for the kids
after school? Over 20% of women over retirement age in
this country are living below poverty level.
